Sender: east-request@laser.east.sun.com Reply-To: east@laser.east.sun.com Apparently-To: Raleigh (UPI) - In a press conference held here this morning, the DoD KotRCR announced finalization of the Right Coast Ride site as High Country Cycle Camp, off the Blue Ridge Parkway in northwestern North Carolina. "This site has been under consideration for some time now. We felt that an expiditious decision was called for." Analysists generally agreed that this announcement would have a positive effect on the national economy, struggling with a slow recovery out of a recent recession. While the President could not be reached for comment, independant H. Ross Perot announced that he had definate plans for the RCR. When pressed for specifics, however, he declined to elaborate. :^) "14 acres devoted to the comforts of motorcycle touring. Camp along the babbling creek of Stoney Fork, stay in a teepee, or crawl between the sheets of a lake-side chalet." * Motorcycles ONLY * Hot Showers * Hot Tub * Laundry * Swimming Hole (hike to 100-ft waterfall) * Horseshoes * Handouts with self-guided tours of the area * Fishing * Dual Sport "challenging courses" I talked with Tom earlier in the week, and left a message with him this morning reserving 2 cabins, 2 teepees, and camping for ~50. The pricing below is from an earlier conversation, or off the brochure, and is yet to be confirmed. I don't know if there is a group discount on camping, but I will certainly ask. Chalets with full linens: $24/2 people (confirmed) Teepees hold up to 6 cots $8 ea with sleeping bag, $10 ea. with linens (not confirmed. Tom said $10/cot, didn't mention linen option) Camping $6/bike solo, $10 two up or couple (not confirmed) I'm going to fix dinner Sat. night, they serve breakfast in the resturant 7-10 am. I will check that this includes Sun. morning. Dinner menu: fruit/nuts/cheese/nick-nacks w/beer & sodas for snacks BBQ chicken breasts Corn on the cob Salad Sodas/beer (gatoraid/fruit juice if enough people ask) Paper plates & napkins will be provided. BRING YOUR OWN FORK, KNIFE, CHOP STICKS, WHATEVER. (note the only thing you need untensils for is the salid, and not even that, really) Food costs, including beer, should run $8-10, max. The above figures for camping costs are pretty close. I have no idea how the breakfast menu is priced. If you are ABSOLUTELY sure you will go, e-mail ME with the number in your immediate party, and what type of lodging you will want. If you are a maybe, I'll take down your name, but not count you in the reservations or the food budget. If you are a maybe and you want a cabin/teepee and we run out, the definates take priority. If you have specific questions about the campground, call Tom Thompson at (919) 973-7522. Somebody with a scanner let me know and I'll fax you the brochure and you can mail out a gif of it, with the map. Otherwise, I'll do a PostScript version of it later. I'm moving this weekend, and on vacation next week, so expect an attendance list out sometime the week of 7/6, for confirmation. If you are going to tote in some homebrew, food, or have and extra sleeping bag, etc., include that info in your reservation. Also note your location and if you're willing to put up some long-distance Denizens overnight. I sent out an announcement on the south list, and I never got a copy. Did anybody? Mail reservations to ME ONLY! People are dropping off the list like flies, can't handle a little mail. What wimps! The idea is that it is a motorcycle only campground, so there won't be any Winnebagos, and pop-up tent trailers with screaming yard apes and lawn chair potatoes. Gary Delong is scanning in the map.
