James Bothwell (LOUD Ninja 250), Shiloh and Ed (red Shadow and old 750 twin Kaw) and myself (blue/black Nighthawk S) made it back to Raleigh on Sunday afternoon. I already miss the mountain roads. Some ramblings on the guys I stayed with. Maybe a larger report to follow. o Tim Seiss. As we were ready to depart for the trip up there, he gets on his R-bike and puts up the side stand. Then he appears to methodically tips the bike to the left, slowly but surely. Hmm, that must be some BMW owner's secret trick, like the sidestand thing, I think to myself. It keeps going, and going... First drop of the RCR II was Friday at 7:45am. And then there's the same guy squidding down the road standing on his seat with one leg out. And no helmet... I drank a lot of water and ate aspirin with Tim. o Shiloh and Ed. Not a highly publicized story, so I'd better tell it here. They took off on their own when everyone went riding on Saturday morning. Both were sporting new dings on their bikes and scrapes on their arms when they returned. Two seperate low-sides on the strategically placed gravel turns... Also, it is very interesting to watch a 2 liter bottle of Sprite fall off of a bike at 65mph. I was behind Ed when he tried it. Don't drink their beer. o James. Very loud 250 Ninja WITH A ROOFING NAIL IN HIS TIRE. Quote on Friday: "I'll go any speed you guys want as long as we keep the pace under 70mph. I don't feel safe taking this tire above that" Quote on Saturday: "Yeah, I stuck with the fast group on the ride. The straightaways were the hardest part, my little Ninja was working like hell getting up to 95mph." o Me, on the trip back. Big time twisties going down a mountain on highway 39. I notice in the mirror that James shot really wide on the last turn and went into the other lane. I turn around and make fun of him. I turn back and realize that I should have been setting up for a turn... The shoulder was about 2 feet wide (dirt) and then there was about a 3 foot ditch. I used every inch of that 2 feet of dirt, and after flailing around managed to get back on the road. Moral - never make fun of another rider DURING the ride... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | Bob Hruska DoD #1982 | email: hruska@bnr.ca | | BNR Inc. - XPM Base Software |USmail: 35 Davis Drive | | RTP North Carolina | Research Triangle Park, NC 27709 | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
