Subject: So, how was RCR? From: Sharon Wheeler Date: Mon, 9 Jul 2001 12:58:02 -0400 To: TriDoD list The RCR was wonderful until about 4am on Sunday morning. The weather was perfect, the hot tubs were hot, and the company was fabulous. Here's a news item that will give you an idea of what happened Sunday: http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/07/09/west.virginia.flood/index.html The entrance to the campground was flooded out. The street (Minden Road) was flooded in Minden (3 miles away). I saw it, there was 8-10 feet of water at the low point where it goes under highway 16. I think the 7 ruined houses in Raleigh county might very well be those buildings. After an interesting trip up a pair of ruts going over the mountain, with spontaneous streams crossing/following the "dirt road", we finally got out of the campground. Lots of wash across many of the backroads. The only main road problem was all the people on 16, going to see the flood on Minden road. The muffler on the pickup truck went out while in WVa. Forget getting it fixed on a Sunday, we tried. I think we both have permanent hearing loss from that trip. Sharon
