Currently only the MT designs are finalized.
I'm working on the SSDS and/or FF&S2 translations, along with new designs
as I have the time. All T4 designs are subject to frequent and extensive
changes.
Unless specified otherwise, all T4 designs
were produced using Andy Akin's excellent spreadsheets.

Notes on translation from MT to T4 designs |

Some ships of the Third Imperium, c.1120 |
|
The Roaches (a.k.a. Cockroaches, Visitors) IMTU occupy the sector two to spinward of the Spinward Marches. |
|
A military-political state at the spinward end of the Foreven (a.k.a Yonder) sector, transitioning from TL-12 to TL13. As of 1119, Scorpionis no longer exists as a political unit, but the ships do provide most of the Naval forces for the new TradeMain Foundation. |
|
The Sword Worlds use a lot of ex-Imperial ships, particularly in the patrol/police roles, but also have some of their own. These are generally specific to a particular world, a result of the prevalent inter-system rivalry. No native Sword World ships have yet been encountered in detail in my campaigns. |
|
They're around, they even have some whole systems in Foreven sector, but they've yet to be encountered in my campaigns. |
|
The evil mind-sucking Zho's (not!) sometimes find their way into my campaigns. The ships they turn up in are shown here. |
|
The black ships are here |

A zipped version of Andy Akin's SSDS spreadsheet for Excel 97, with a few minor corrections and modifications. It produces canonical ships, and can be used in my campaigns. |
|
A zipped version of Andy Akin's FF&S2 spreadsheet for Excel 97, with a few minor corrections and modifications. It produces canonical ships, and can be used in my campaigns for at least TL15 and below. |
(in progress) |
The zipped version of Andy Akin's FF&S2 spreadsheet for Excel 97 which can be used in my campaigns for all tech levels. It contains non-canonical changes, mainly for tech levels over 15. |
|
Under ssds, hull material is not a factor. Again, Roach ships prove more difficult here because they often use lower-tech hull materials to reduce cost. I've ignored this difference.
Missile magazines end up being *much* smaller capacity under T4/ssds than they are under MT. Unfortunate, but there's not a lot I can do about it.

Ships tend to be simple, strong, heavy designs. Tech level is 11, but with cunning and guile (of which the Roaches have plenty) they are capable of serious actions against more advanced but less well commanded navies.
The tendency is towards special roles for smaller ship designs. There are at least a dozen variants of the BOXER class, each with its own special role: Heavy Combat and Infighting variants close with the enemy fleet, sharing sensor locks with lightly-armored Combat Support variants in the rear lines; Light Combat variants are reserved for engagements with smaller and non-military opponents.
Ships of the Line are more general-purpose in nature, but retain the
strong and simple philosophy.

The Navy in Scorpionis was the elite career, and along with the Press Corps ran the government. Navy personnel are highly paid and very comfortable. As opposed to cramped Imperium double-occupancy, the Scorpionis ships all have an entire large stateroom for every Naval person on board.
The benefits of the Navy do not extend to military personnel of other services: Army and even Marine soldiers (and officers!) travelling on Navy ships are assigned at best double occupancy, sometimes just allocated to large common areas to set up their own living arrangements.
In transition between TL-12 and TL-13, the TL-12 ships are more common
. At the time of the Unification, TL-13 version of the ships were
replacing them in the elite fleets while the older ships shuffled back
to lesser units; it is not yet clear what effect the wartime loss of manufacturing
facilities will have, nor that of the superior Corona quality that is sure
to be incorporated into future designs.
